StreetDance 3D

StreetDance 3D is yet another eyeful of krunking, locking, popping and breaking as apparently we were left wanting by Step Up, Step Up 2 the Street and Step Up 3D. This newer one dimensional 3D offering comes from Great Britain but still the story line is all too familiar with any excuse being used to bust a move and with the same end game – making it to the big dance competition in New York City. As usual there is an underdog crew that has to overcome an insurmountable rival group of dancers in order to advance to the Big Apple. Heading the unlikely team is Carly (Nichola Burley) who is in over her head after she and the other members are abandoned by Jay (Ukweli Roach) their muse and Carly’s main squeeze. The hook with this film is the amalgamation of ballet with ghetto moves and that gets mixed results, mostly bad. This mixture of two art forms is a distasteful compromise agreed to in exchange for rehearsal space from ballet school head mistress Helena who is grasping at ideas to save her faltering academy. With the popularity of reality TV centred on dance this will probably find an audience quite willing to overlook a wafer thin plot. However with Charlotte Rampling as Helena and also currently on screen as another head mistress in Never Let Me Go there may be many more who would wish she’d offer up the cast for immediate organ donation.
