It's Kind of a Funny Story

It's Kind of a Funny Story Is a story that’s more than a little funny and more than a little dramatic. It’s the story of Craig (Keir Gilchrist) a fairly typical teenager with only a slightly higher than typical suicidal tendencies which lately are exacerbated by peer and parental pressure. His passive aggressive parents Lynn (Lauren Graham) and George (Jim Gaffigan) have a career path mapped out for him that doesn’t exactly coincide with that of their son and he has a heavy crush on Nia (Zoë Kravitz) the girlfriend of Aaron (Thomas Mann) who is Craig’s best friends even though Aaron makes him feel painfully inadequate. Feeling that he can not trust himself Craig checks into a psychiatric facility only to find that he can not readily check himself out when he has serious second thoughts. Not only that but since the adolescent ward is temporarily closed Craig is assimilated into the much scarier adult population Through a friendship he strikes up with fellow ebullient patient Bobby (Zach Galifianakis) and Noelle (Emma Roberts) a distractingly attractive fellow sixteen year old, Craig comes to realize how far from truly damaged he really is and his actions in five short days turn him into a compassionate and in control young man.  It's Kind of a Funny Story is sort of a teenage One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest without the lobotomies.
